IPOH – The Perak state assembly will convene today, a first without a sitting menteri besar as the leadership crisis remains unresolved, reported the New Straits Times.

Two days ago, Perak Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid said the state assembly would not be able to continue its sitting today without a menteri besar and at least four state executive councillors.

He had said without the appointment of a menteri besar before today, a motion to postpone the sitting must be tabled.

“If a state government is not formed by 2.30pm, I will ask one assemblyman to table a motion to postpone the sitting until further notice.”

He was quoted as saying that the adjournment of today’s state assembly sitting would be done under the Perak assembly standing order 80.

Last Friday, former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost a confidence vote, triggering the collapse of the Perikatan Nasional state government.
