IPOH – The Perak assembly will not be able to continue its sitting this Wednesday without a menteri besar and at least four state executive councillors, state Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid told Bernama today.

Zahir said without the appointment of a menteri besar before Wednesday, a motion to postpone the sitting must be tabled.

“If a state government is not formed by 2.30pm on Wednesday, I will ask one assemblyman to table a motion to postpone the sitting until further notice.”

According to the original schedule, the state assembly was supposed to sit for five days, starting Friday, to table the state's 2021 budget.

Zahir said when the new menteri besar is appointed, the person needs to notify the state assembly within 14 days to resume sitting, adding that the sitting will only resume 14 days after the notification.

On Friday, former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost a confidence vote, triggering the collapse of the Perikatan Nasional state government.

Yesterday, Faizal tendered his resignation as menteri besar, leaving the post vacant. – The Vibes, December 6, 2020
