ALOR GAJAH – The new Melaka deputy speaker will be announced in June, said Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum.

He said the state government had received two nominees for the post but declined to disclose whether they are from Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“We are still in discussion to identify the right candidate for the post, previously held by Datuk Khaidhriah Abu Zahar, who has been appointed deputy state executive councillor for investment, industries, and TVET development.

“The name will be announced several days before or on the first day of the next state assembly sitting, expected at the end of June,” he told reporters today at the Kuala Linggi constituency Aidilfitri open house he jointly organised with its assemblyman Rosli Abdullah.

Ibrahim did not rule out the possibility of a PH nominee being appointed to the post.

“For sure the appointment will reflect efforts to strengthen the state unity government,” he added. – Bernama, April 24, 2023
