KOTA KINABALU – Some 500 tour and travel agencies in Sabah will receive more than RM2 million as a one-off assistance from the state government.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said in a statement that the assistance will benefit 503 tour and travel agencies in the state that have registered with the federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.

He said each agency will receive an assistance of RM4,000, which is part of the Sabah New Deal allocation for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) activities, while the other part is of the existing allocation under the state ministry.

He said it was an aid as well as an appreciation for the contributions of travel agencies over the years.

Meanwhile, Jafry hoped that with the special assistance, all entrepreneurs will be able to resume their businesses after permission was given by the government.

He reminded all operators to continue to adhere to standard operating procedures issued by the government to ensure tourist confidence. – The Vibes, December 11, 2020
