GEORGE TOWN – Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer has called on police to expedite investigations into whether Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had committed sedition by claiming Penang belongs to Kedah.

As several police reports have been lodged, it is only fair that the authorities hasten their probe and reach an outcome on the matter, the DAP politician said at a press conference today.

Rayer said that when certain quarters in Sarawak demanded secession from Malaysia, police had opened investigation papers into such calls.

“I think this is similar. Sanusi was outright seditious when he challenged the highest law of the land – the federal constitution – by insisting that Penang belongs to Kedah.

“We are hoping that police will likewise investigate the matter,” Rayer said, adding that he would raise Sanusi’s remarks in the Dewan Rakyat, which continues its sitting tomorrow.

Sanusi has repeatedly claimed that Penang belongs to Kedah, asserting that the former’s lease to Penang founder Francis Light was not genuine and the Kedah sultanate was deceived by the British explorer.

Speaking about another PAS politician, Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff, Rayer said he would be filing for an injunction with the high court to restrain the Penang PAS commissioner from making defamatory statements against him.

Rayer yesterday threatened legal action against Fauzi for alleging that Rayer claimed to not need Malay or Indian votes in Jelutong.

Rayer today reiterated that Fauzi has 24 hours to apologise. – The Vibes, June 5, 2023
