KUALA LUMPUR – The National Registration Department (NRD), today, confirmed the arrest of two of its officers by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on June 7 for their alleged involvement in the activities of a birth certificate and MyKid syndicate.
In a statement, today, NRD director-general Zamri Misman said the case comes as a result of a strategic collaboration involving the sharing of internal investigation findings with the MACC, which led to the subsequent arrest.
He added that the NRD will continue to provide full cooperation with the authorities to facilitate the investigation.
“The NRD will not compromise on any misconduct by its staff members involved in the unauthorised issuance of identification documents.
“NRD will not protect any employees found to be engaged in activities that could jeopardise the security and sovereignty of the country.
“Appropriate actions and punishments will be imposed if the arrested officers are proven guilty,” Zamri said.
The NRD said it remains committed to ensuring that there are no lapses in integrity violations by continuously improving the procedures for issuing identification documents and implementing various programs to improve the integrity of its staff members.
Additionally, regular internal investigations and continuous cooperation with other enforcement agencies will be undertaken by the department to ensure no room for corruption and abuse of power by unauthorised individuals. – The Vibes, June 8, 2023
