KUALA LUMPUR – Non-Malay supporters of Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) have expressed support for the new outfit’s agenda of abolishing vernacular schools.
“We support Putra’s call to abolish vernacular schools, and have one stream of national schools where vernacular languages can be taught,” Bala Gopal of Insan Peka, a non-governmental organisation in support of the party, told The Vibes at Putra’s inaugural annual general meeting at Regency Hotel here today.
He said such a system will not only create a conducive environment to instil unity in students, but also allow vernacular languages to be taught to all.
“If these languages are taught in only one type of school, then everyone can learn them.”
Party president Datuk Ibrahim Ali, in his speech, thanked two non-Malay NGOs for attending the AGM.
Asked why he attended the meeting, Bala said he hopes to dispel misconceptions about the party.
“Labelling this party as racist for talking about Malay rights is wrong. We must realise that around 60% of our population is Malay, and we must learn how to share this country.” – The Vibes, December 12, 2020
