KOTA KINABALU – The 10-year limit on Sabah public transport vehicles has been eased with the state Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board citing the slow economy.

Its chairman, Datuk Chin Kim Hiung, said the decision was made after a meeting in September, and it applies to taxis, mini buses, school buses, charter buses, express buses and so on.

“Prior to the September meeting, replacement or transfer of ownership applications and any change of vehicle must be either new or not more than 10 years old.

“The board decided to set aside this condition to make it easier for permit holders to transfer ownership and for those planning to acquire replacement vehicles to opt for used units not necessarily below 10 years old.”

Chin said the decision will bring some relief to the public transport service in Sabah in view of the current economic situation and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. – The Vibes, December 12, 2020
