GEORGE TOWN – Kedah caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammed Sanusi Md Nor is becoming a “disruptive force” instead of showing leadership, former Balik Pulau MP Mohd Yusmadi Yusoff said.
The former PKR senator said Sanusi should instead collaborate with other states in the northern region, even though he is from the opposition Perikatan Nasional.
Kedah is in need of investments to steer it away from poverty, but Sanusi is not helping his state by “quarrelling with everyone”, Yusmaidi said.
“When you quarrel with everyone, your state suffers as you are unwilling to collaborate. States with means to help their neighbours would rather stay away,” he told The Vibes.
Kedah is now ranked together with the likes of Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak as being among the most impoverished states in the country, Yusmaidi pointed out.
Although Sanusi’s rhetoric may have earned him a large following, this will not help the economic plight of Kedahans, he added.
Sanusi should offer solutions which will include collaborations with leaders of other states and the federal government.
“Becoming a leader is not only during an election but throughout the period, one is elected to serve,” Yusmaidi said.
He added that Sanusi could learn from one of his party’s former leaders, the respected late PAS spiritual adviser Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who was Kelantan menteri besar.
During his time, Kelantan collaborated with the federal government on social development projects that improved the lot of the people there, Yusmaidi said
Sanusi has been at loggerheads with Penang over raw water supply from Kedah’s rivers, and over state boundaries as he has insisted that Penang “belongs” to Kedah.
Currently, the PAS politician is to face trial for sedition over remarks which insulted the Selangor sultan and the formation of the unity government.
He is also expected to be questioned by the anti-graft authority on alleged corruption in rare earth element mining activities in Kedah. – The Vibes, July 20, 2023
