PUTRAJAYA – The Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board (LPPPQ) has approved the disposal of 2,513 copies of the Quran and 10,788 reading materials that are not certified by the Home Affairs Ministry, have mistakes in the verses, are damaged, or are old.
Ministry enforcement and control division secretary Nik Yusaimi Yussof said in a statement today that the approval was among the decisions made during the 108th LPPPQ meeting organised by the ministry through the division.
He said other resolutions included certifying and validating 16 final proofs of Qurans that were passed, taking the latest tally of Quran text allowed to be printed, published, imported, and distributed in the country to 932 types.
Also stipulated was the ban on the importation, sale and distribution of Quran and translations without the Arabic text, and that all translations of the verses of Quran in Malaysia must be guided by the Ar-Rahman Leaderships Interpretation of the meaning of the Quran published by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department, he said.
In addition, he said all imported Qurans were required to comply with the application, review and certification procedures under Section 7 of the Printing of Al-Quran Text Act before being allowed to be brought into Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Nik Yusaimi said the “Jom Exchange Al-Quran” programme would be continued nationwide to realise the ministry’s goal of zero Qurans without ministry approval in the country.
He said the ministry would take strict action against any party involved in the sale or distribution of Qurans or reading material in violation of the country’s laws. If found guilty, one can be punished with imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both.
“The public is called upon to cooperate by channelling information related to Quran texts or materials that do not have a ministry certificate by calling 03-8000 8000, or through the website at www.moha.gov.my,” he said. – Bernama, August 9, 2023
