PETALING JAYA – A ginger cat made headlines recently after it surfaced that he was rescued by ambulance personnel from the site of the Elmina plane crash.

Given the name Oyen, the cat was taken to Dr Zul Erwan Azmi’s cat clinic in Sg Buloh where he received treatment for a 15-cm tear on his side.

In an update on Oyen’s condition, Dr Zul Erwan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who shared their concern.

“For today, Oyen is doing better and more stable. He was also well behaved when it came time for us to clean his wound,” the veterinarian said on Instagram.

He said the clinic received many messages and calls from people interested in adopting Oyen, however he informed that the cat is not up for adoption.

“I would like to inform… that Oyen is not up for adoption because he has an owner, one of the Health Ministry’s ambulance personnel,” he said.

Dr Zul Erwan also stressed that there have been no donation drives set up for the fortunate feline.

“The clinic has not opened any form of donations or contributions for Oyen. Please be careful if there are any collections being made in Oyen’s name,” he said.

Dr Zul Erwan had informed yesterday that the cost of treating Oyen is fully supported by Zul Erwan Cat House, which is his non-profit cat adoption effort.

Speaking to the Vibes yesterday, the veterinarian said the Health Ministry’s ambulance team informed him that they found Oyen at the crash site where a Beechcraft private jet had crashed and killed 10 people.

The team brought the cat in the ambulance and administered basic treatment, putting a bandage on the injury after which they sent him to Dr Zul Erwan for further treatment. – The Vibes, August 21, 2023
