KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officially open the Postnormal Times Exhibition at the KL Jazz & Art Centre, here on Friday.
The exhibition, to be held until October 15, is a collaboration between the International Institute of Islamic Thought, East and Southeast Asia (IIIT) and the Centre for Postnormal Policy and Futures Studies (CPPFS).
According to Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Fauzan Noordin, who is the IIIT East and Southeast Asia director, and Professor Ziauddin Sardar, the director of CPPFS, the exhibition is set to take the audience on an experiential and pedagogical journey, provoking questions that challenge our confounding present and drive us to navigate a better way forward.
“Postnormal times theory and the insights from the field of futures studies explored in this exhibition aided greatly in the development of Anwar’s Madani policy framework.
“This is the first exhibition of its kind in Malaysia and is free and open to the public,” they said in a statement.
Parallel to the main exhibition, workshops, seminars, and public lectures will also take place under the auspices of IIIT and the CPPFS.
“This exhibition is about change. Not just that times are changing, but that the very nature of change itself is changing.
“And this is not happening in isolation, but it is a global phenomenon, and as readily visible in London as it is in Kuala Lumpur,” said Mohamad Fauzan.
He said the exhibition explores the theoretical elements of postnormal times theory while also presenting recent and real-world examples.
“To move beyond postnormal times requires deep revisions in the ways we live and act, the choices we make, and the way we think and imagine – particularly regarding the future,” added Ziauddin.
The opening ceremony will begin at 12pm.
