KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today snuffed out speculation on a cabinet reshuffle tomorrow.
“The matter was not part of our agenda during my weekly pre-cabinet meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong earlier,” he said.
Anwar said he will be leaving for Sabah immediately after the cabinet meeting tomorrow and then to Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
A cabinet reshuffle had been widely speculated to take place tomorrow, eleven months after the unity government was formed in November last year.
Anwar was also expected to announce a successor to the domestic trade and costs of living minister, the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.
Two ministerial portfolios were also expected to be given to MIC and MCA.
Speaking to reporters after the closing ceremony of Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2023 here today, Anwar also touched on the current haze situation in the country.
He said Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad will coordinate with his counterparts in Asean including Indonesia to handle transboundary haze.
Earlier, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek had also said that schools will revert to home-based teaching and learning methods (PdPR) if they are forced to close due to the haze.
She said if the Air Pollution Index (API) hits 200 in any area, all schools in the area will be closed immediately.
Yesterday, the Environment Department said schools, kindergartens and nurseries should begin making the relevant preparations if the trend in daily API readings are heading towards the 200 mark.
An API reading of 0-50 is considered good. 51-100 is moderate, 101-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous. – The Vibes, October 3, 2023
