SIBU – A violent street fight between two gangs, armed with broadswords and rods here, left an innocent man on a motorcycle dead.

The elderly victim was killed when he was knocked down during a car chase, which ensued later between the gang members.

The incident took place last night and police have since arrested five youth suspected of being involved in the clash.

Those detained are aged between 17 to 30.

All those detained were tested positive for various types of drugs, Sibu police chief Zulkipli Suhaili said today.

“We received a distress call at 6.45pm yesterday about a fight between two gangs armed with broadswords and rods in Lorong Wong King Hou.

“The two groups were also engaged in a car chase along the streets, during which one of the cars rammed into a motorcyclist along Jalan Alan.

“The victim, a 71-year-old senior citizen, was killed on the spot.

“A police unit that rushed to the scene arrested the five suspects and also seized the broadswords, rods and two vehicles,” he said in a statement.

“Initial investigations revealed that the gangs had clashed over some debts,” he said.

The five suspects are being investigated for rioting using dangerous weapons and for dangerous driving, causing the death of the motorcyclist.

Those with any information on the clash are urged to contact police to assist investigations. – The Vibes, October 25, 2023
