PETALING JAYA – Police have detained a man, believed to be driving under the influence of drugs, after he hit two cars and rammed into the Istana Besar Johor front gate at 5.28am today.

Johor Baru South police chief Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at KM2.3 Jalan Skudai, Pantai Lido, in Johor Baru.

The suspect is a foreigner in his twenties who was driving a gold-coloured Audi.

“The suspect was heading to Skudai from Johor Baru town when he lost control of the car and skidded to the opposite lane where there were two other cars, a Proton Persona taxi and a Perodua Aruz.

“He crashed into the two cars, then into the front gate of Istana Besar,” said Raub.

The foreigner suffered minor injuries, while the rest involved were unhurt.

The palace gate was damaged due to the impact, while the foreigner’s car overturned.

A urine test on the suspect found that he tested positive for methamphetamine and the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Raub urged anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Johor Baru district police headquarters (IPD) or the investigating officer, Insp Hafiz Jaafar Mad Ariff, at 017-5919208 to assist with investigations. – The Vibes, October 28, 2023
