PETALING JAYA - Three people were injured when a section of the ceiling at the Megah Rise Mall near here collapsed earlier today.

The incident is believed to have occurred about 3pm during a heavy downpour.

A statement on the mall's Facebook said the incident is being investigated and measures have since been taken to manage the situation.

"We regret to inform you that the ceiling of the car porch in front of the Megah Rise Mall entrance collapsed during strong winds and a heavy downpour this afternoon at approximately 3pm, resulting in three minor injuries.

“We are currently investigating the cause of the incident and are taking immediate action to manage and address the situation.

“Our priority is the safety and well-being of our community,” read the statement.

According to a witness, it was a very frightening incident.

"Suddenly people began screaming and running to safety.

"From what I heard, nobody was seriously injured in the incident which occurred suddenly during a heavy downpour," said the witness, identified only as Robin.

The mixed development project, including Megah Rise Residensi, a 39-storey luxury condominium, was launched by PPB Properties back in December 2022. - The Vibes, October 28, 2023
