No cracks on either bridge across Penang Channel

PETALING JAYA – An old video of a crack underneath a bridge, allegedly the Penang Bridge, is being circulated online and has been debunked.

Penang State Executive Councillor for Insfrastructure, Transport and Digital Zairil Khir Johari said his office conducted checks on both the Penang Bridge and the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge (popularly known as Second Penang Bridge), and found no such damage on either of them.

In a Facebook post, the Tanjung Bungah assemblyman also said they found the video to be an old one and not even shot in Penang.

"Based on checks, the video is old and was (of) an incident of a crack under a bridge overseas in 2014," he said.

He urged that people stop sharing the video as it would only cause unrest among the public.

Earlier, Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) had also issued a statement denying there was a crack on the Second Penang Bridge.

They asked that the public refrain from linking the 28-second clip making its rounds to the structure. – The Vibes, October 30, 2023
