THE termination of the political appointee Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman as the chairman of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is welcomed. But more needs to be done to improve the performances and working conditions of our government-linked companies (GLCs).

Undeniably, the performance of our GLCs is deteriorating in terms working conditions, financial sustainability, and transparency in the hands of these incompetent political appointees.

The mismanagement of our GLCs due to the incompetence of political appointees is hurting the people, workers, and economy.

The government needs to recognise that the best people to manage our GLCs are the workers themselves.

The workers will not plunder nor mismanage their own “bread and butter” compared to the political appointees.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) needs to allow representatives of the workers’ union to make up at least one third of the entire board of directors of the GLCs.

This practice is not revolutionary as representative workers’ unions are members of the board of directors in many private and government corporations within the European Union (EU).

Besides that, Perikatan Nasional (PN) needs to allow the establishment of workers’ unions within the GLCs without workers’ unions. – The Vibes, May 27, 2021
