PATRIOT refers to the news report “Federal police aware OCPDs ‘making noise’ about Bukit Aman operations” (New Straits Times, May 15, 2023).

Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay’s clarification on the actions being undertaken by the Bukit Aman team, including its newly established CID task force in response to public complaints, brings hopes of image redemption.

For far too long police have suffered under the unkind cut of a bad image. And while many men and women in blue have been faithful to their call of duty, we cannot deny the fact that there are bad apples in the basket too.

With regards to the stern and fearless warning given by Ayob Khan targeting OCPDs, Patriot approves such a “without fear or favour” determination by the CID director.

OCPDs can play a pivotal role in the cleaning up of the police’s image. They have what it takes to get their men and women to fall in line as the nation gears up with its reform agenda under the promising leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his unity government.

Patriot welcomes all such actions being taken by Ayob Khan; and rightfully so, as Bukit Aman, which is synonymous with good policing, deserves sterling performance from every single OCPD.

A cleaner reputation will go a long way for PDRM in also ensuring that Malaysia Madani becomes the torch for all citizens including businesses, as we battle to purge corruption.

Patriot wishes CID director Ayob Khan success for his trademark reputation as a no-nonsense leader.

And on that note, Patriot, which also includes retired senior police personnel in its membership, is willing to play any meaningful role in contributing to the success of PDRM.

We hope that our good-natured, patriotic OCPDs will live up to every letter of the Aku Janji.

The time has arrived for a big sweep to clean up the police force once and for all as the nation is dependent on clean, efficient, and bold policing.
