SIX individuals were arrested less than 48 hours after kidnapping a man and demanding a ransom of RM7 million for his release.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M Kumar said police received a report on the kidnapping at 1.30am yesterday from the victim's wife.

He said acting on information, police from the Bukit Aman Special Branch and the Selangor CID carried out operations around Selangor and successfully rescued the victim early this morning.

"An operation was launched and at 1am today, the team managed to rescue the victim in a residential unit in the area around i-City, Shah Alam, Selangor.

"We arrested six individuals, consisting of five local men and one local woman aged between 30 and 46 years for further investigations," he said in a statement today.

Kumar said police also found and seized various types of drugs, a number of mobile phones and several vehicles believed to be used in criminal activities.

He said the suspects are being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, which covers kidnapping for ransom. Those convicted face between 30 and 40 years’ imprisonment, as well as whipping.

Investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 are also being carried out against all six suspects.

"The remand application has been granted for 10 days under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961 starting today.

"The investigation is still ongoing to identify the involvement of other individuals, the motive for the incident and the criminal network believed to be linked to this case," he said. – July 18, 2026
