THE upcoming general election will be the first that we are going into as an electorate without having a clue which government we are voting for, and who is going to form that government.

Could we see all sides cancelling each other out because of their choice of partners?

Like all things political, it is almost entirely about strategy – but one wonders what the actual strategy is with all parties vying to dominate, yet keeping mum on their intentions. Meanwhile, some incumbent MPs are finding themselves not being able to defend their seats while others are leaping over to different constituencies.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition and its linchpin Umno are as fragmented as ever. On the other hand, the opposition parties do not seem to be as united as they were in the 2018 general election when they faced a BN that was so confident.

We now have new young voters making up almost half of the electoral public, themselves who are disenfranchised and disillusioned. Who are they leaning towards? Are they even sure they want to come out and vote at all?

This general election appears to be a ‘poster boys pick’ for prime minister and not the party he represents as a deciding factor.

The poster boys are Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for Pakatan Harapan, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for BN, and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for Perikatan Nasional. – The Vibes, October 22, 2022
