KUALA LUMPUR - National rally legend Karamjit Singh is planning to open a rally school to find new talents for the motorsport.
Karamjit, who is known as the 'Flying Sikh', said the purpose of creating the rally school was to ensure the national rally racing sport did not run out of young talent.
"I have discussed with Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and we will open a rally school next year to scout for new talent in the future. The school will probably start in the second quarter of 2021.
"Anyone can join this rally school and we plan to hold training at the estate near SIC," he told the media.
Through the rally school, Karamjit said they would be able to select potential rally drivers to be featured in the Asia Pacific and world races.
The 58-year-old rally driver acknowledged that Malaysia has many young talents in rally motorsport but most of them need continuous support and training to be promoted to a higher level.
Meanwhile, the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) secretary-general, Muizz Azli announced that the association would be organising a rally clinic in the second quarter of next year.
"For now, we have only received one application for the rally race in Terengganu in February. But MAM thinks there will be more (rally racing championships). If there is no rally race, there will be a rally clinic organised by MAM," he said. – Bernama, December 18, 2020.
