BERSATU President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stated that he was certain UMNO would return to challenge PAS's dominance in the northern states when the time comes.
This is despite Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) currently working together throughout the Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN) campaign.
The former Prime Minister claimed that the ‘friendliness’ shown by PAS towards UMNO at this time was merely to avoid a clash between the two parties.
According to him, PAS is using Negeri Sembilan as a field to send a signal to UMNO not to contest against each other in the upcoming elections.
“So that UMNO can learn from this election, it will not fight with PAS in the northern states in future.
“But remember, I believe UMNO will also betray it (PAS),” he said.
He said the cooperation did not mean that UMNO would continue to avoid clashes with PAS, especially in the states currently governed by the party.
“So, for now, those in Negeri Sembilan are hugging and kissing. Tomorrow they will face problems because, in fact, that situation will not repeat in the northern states,” he said.
In this regard, he urged the people of Negeri Sembilan not to be easily influenced by the cooperation between BN and PN, which he described as a mere political manoeuvre ahead of the election.
“(Compared to) Bersatu, we have never lied because we are a party that sincerely holds to principles, those who are wrong are still wrong, and those who violate the law are still violating the law.
"Those are the principles that our party has defended all this time, unlike other parties that do not hold on to any principles," he said. – July 26, 2026
