FOLLOWING a conspiracy by certain members to overthrow the president and deputy of the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA), a state vice-president has now claimed that his signature was forged.

Perak Cricket's M. Muniandy, who is also MCA's head coach has since lodged a formal complaint over his forged signature.

His signature was allegedly forged in a requisition form by Perak Cricket to remove MCA's president and deputy.

The Vibes had earlier reported that certain individuals in the MCA were planning a coup d'etat as they now see the potential of the MCA, access to the Prime Minister (who for the first time since the glory days of Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, acknowledged and supported Malaysian cricket) and now wanted to use it for their own benefits.

"From what we know, they are trying to coax the state chairmen to sign a petition to hold an emergency general meeting with the singular aim of removing the president and deputy president.

"They want to use this backdoor route rather than wait for the normal AGM which is imminent and win via democratic means," revealed a source.

When contacted by The Vibes, most of the state MCA chairmen refused to comment on the petition while two were angered when queried if they had signed.

"I did not sign any such document and was not even aware of it.

"Any such document bearing my signature is a fake. There was also no state exco meeting to discuss any requisition," said Muniandy.

Perak Cricket upset

Perak Cricket (PCA) honorary secretary Mohamad Salim meanwhile, expressed his disappointment that PCA had been implicated in the conspiracy to overthrow the president and his deputy.

"This move was initiated without any prior approval from the PCA exco.

"This is a serious matter and could lead to further consequences and put the future of cricket development in Perak at risk.

"The Perak exco formally demands an explanation from the PCA president," said Mohamad.

It is learnt that among those behind the conspiracy to overthrow MCA's president and deputy is Gordon Chung, who is the vice-president of Sarawak Cricket.

He is allegedly backing MCA's past president, Mahinda Vallipuram who, according to sources wants to return to the MCA presidency.

"Gordon is aligned to a political leader in Sarawak who was recently deposed. This has perhaps weakened his position in Sarawak.

When contacted, Sarawak Cricket president, Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed said he had no knowledge of any requisition to remove MCA's president and deputy and there was no state exco meeting to discuss anything to this effect.

"I am happy with the progress MCA has made, especially also since Sarawak was given the opportunity to host one of the groups to the U19 T20 Women's Cricket World Cup," he said.

He said he was very confident with the current leadership of MCA led by Iqbal and with greater support from all, stressed that Malaysian cricket will achieve much more.

The Vibes also learnt that formal complaints have been lodged with the MCA disciplinary board.

When contacted, its chairman, Mahnorizal Mahat said he was unable to comment on the matter as investigations were already underway and may involve certain authorities. – February 24, 2024
