KOTA KINABALU: Barely a week after his appointment as Sabah Football Association (SAFA) acting president, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, has been actively revamping the state football body.
Businessman Datuk Verdon Bahanda, who was named Sabah Football Club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), had stepped down after only a month as the club’s boss.
Bahanda, who had also acquired 70% stake in the state football club, would also have his funds reimbursed. According to sources in the Sabah football fraternity, Bahanda invested RM3 million.
Rumours circulating the mill state that Bung, who is Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I, would become the new CEO of the club.
Last week, SAFA Deputy President Datuk Abdul Rahman Zakaria told The Vibes that Bahanda’s position as Sabah FC CEO would not be affected as the club and the association are two separate entities.
Over the same period, the Lamag assemblyman also appointed Pantai Dalit assemblyman, Jasnih Daya, as the association’s treasurer, State Economic Planning Unit Deputy Director, Benedict Asmat, as Secretary General and former state football player, Azman Mastar, as assistant secretary general.
Meanwhile, Bung Moktar also hinted changes will be made on the management side of Sabah FC but did not elaborate specifically what it would be.
“It is in the process and would be for the good of the state football team,” he said.
Sabah FC faces the Super League, President Club and Youth Cup tournaments, which are expected to start in the middle of next year. ─ The Vibes, 24 December, 2020.
