THE country's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, climbed to No. 2 in the world rankings today, their highest position since 2009.

This extraordinary success makes them the first Malaysian women's doubles to reach such a high position since the glory era of the legendary pair, Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui.

Their string of excellent performances since last year saw Pearly-Thinaah continue to create history for national badminton.

Among the most glorious achievements include winning the 2022 French Open and advancing to the semi-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The year 2025 saw them win the Thailand Open in addition to advancing to four World Tour semi-finals including the Indonesia and China Opens, recently.

Their popularity and consistency were also appreciated when they are believed to have received a contract worth RM1 million a year for four years with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) until the end of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics - making it the largest contract for a national female player to date.

But behind the spotlight and attention, their main target now is to win the first medal in Malaysian women's badminton history at the World Championships taking place in Paris, France from 25 August to 1 September. – July 29, 2025
