THE national professional men's doubles, Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, completed Malaysia's brilliant day when they also confirmed their progress to the final stage of the Indonesian Masters in Istora Senayan, Jakarta, a short while ago.
In the semi-final, the former world number one pair displayed an energetic performance before defeating the Danish pair, Daniel Lundgaard–Mads Vestergaard, with a straight set victory of 21-9, 21-15.
The convincing victory saw Sze Fei–Izzuddin become the third representative from the country to advance to the final of the World Tour Super 500 tournament after the mixed doubles, Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei and the women's doubles, Pearly Tan–M. Thinaah.
Starting as the fourth seed in the tournament, the pair, better known as DinFei, clearly did not face many problems when they dominated the game from the beginning and finished the match in just 28 minutes.
The consistent performance displayed by the world number nine pair thus provided relief to the Malaysian camp, especially after the hopes of the defending national champions, Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun, were stranded in the quarter-finals.
Izzuddin-Sze Fei will face a tough challenge when they are scheduled to face the home doubles, Raymond Indra–Nikolaus Joaquin in the final tomorrow.
On paper, the advantage is slightly in favour of Raymond–Nikolaus, who has a 1-0 record against the national doubles as well as the strong support of the home fans at Istora Senayan.
The unseeded pair advanced after eliminating another home representative, Rachel Allessya Rose-Febi Setianingrum, who was seeded seventh in a tight three-set battle 12-21, 21-19, 13-21.
Earlier, world number two women's doubles team Pearly Tan-M Thinaah dismissed the challenge of the home team, Lanny Tria Mayasari-Apriyana Rahayu, to also make it to the finals.
The runners-up of last year's edition displayed an energetic performance to secure a straight set victory 21-15, 21-8 in just 32 minutes at the BWF Super 500 tournament.
