THE national women's doubles, Pearly Tan-M Thinaah, booked their ticket to the next round after defeating Hong Kong's Fan Ka Yan-Yau Mau Ying in the first round of the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) today.
In the action that took place at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre, China, the world number two pair only needed 31 minutes to record a straight set victory over Ka Yan-Mau Ying 21-14, 21-11.
In the next round, awaiting them is the Taiwanese pair, Hsu Yin-Hui-Lin Jhih Yun.
Meanwhile, the national women's singles player, K Letshanaa, also advanced to the second round after recording a straight set victory 21-19, 21-14 over Tanvi Sharma from India.
Letshanaa will now face South Korean Sim Yu Jin, who stunned fifth seed Han Yue from China 16-21, 21-10, 21-15.
Another national women's singles player, Wong Ling Chin, almost pulled off a shock before losing to former world champion P V Sindhu 21-15, 11-21, 19-21 in 67 minutes.
The last time the two players met was at the 2023 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC), which saw Ling Chin lose in straight sets 13-21, 17-21. – April 8, 2026
