SELANGOR Crown Prince, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has dismissed speculation linking him with the top job at the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

According to reports in The New Straits Times, he said his focus is on transforming the Football Association of Selangor (FAS).

If Selangor's football community is empowered to reach its full potential, he believes the state can set the benchmark for others.

Asked if he would consider contesting the FAM presidency, following reports that his name had surfaced alongside the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, Tengku Amir Shah shut the door firmly.

"Oh no, I'm not interested in contesting for the FAM presidency. I'm interested in FAS," he said.

The FAS president stressed that his work in Selangor is far from finished, highlighting reforms in refereeing standards and coaching development as key priorities.

"We still have a lot to do on referees. I really believe we can get better referees, better coaches — not just focus on players, but improve the whole football ecosystem," he said.

Pressed on whether he might consider the national role in future, Tengku Amir reiterated that his energies remain firmly in Shah Alam. – February 15, 2026
