DATUK Ab Ghani Hassan has swept to the presidency of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), defeating Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar 20-5 in a decisive two-way contest at the association’s Extraordinary Congress today.
The victory sees Ab Ghani, a former player who later moved into football administration, take charge of FAM for the remainder of the 2025-2029 term.
The leadership change was accompanied by several other changes to the association’s office-bearers, with Datuk Seri Rosmadi Ismail elected FAM Vice-President 1 after securing 15 votes.
Rosmadi defeated Mohd Firdaus Mohamed and Syed Yazid Syed Omar, who each received five votes.
Datuk N Saaran was elected FAM Vice-President 3 with 18 votes, defeating Afizal Abu Othman, who received seven.
National football legend Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan retained his position on the FAM Executive Committee after winning the Professional Executive Committee seat with 22 votes against Azlan Johar’s three.
