Hi, everyone! This week, let's talk about how to flow through your dance and what can be done to help make your dances more graceful and fluid.

Essentially, yes- practice does make perfect, but consider these in your subsequent training:

● Note the moves you don't feel perfectly comfortable with.

Work on breaking down the steps in the choreography to achieve the trick. When you are not confident with a move, it tends to show.

● Combine the moves

Once you feel confident and comfortable with each move, combine it with the moves before and after to practice the flow.

● Muted bite-sized pieces

Practice the choreography in pieces without music to help you memorise the sequence of steps.

● Bite-sized pieces to the beat

Practice it again in pieces, but this time with the music to ensure you hit all the accents and timing. You can break down the routine into 4-5 segments and attempt these in isolation.

EG. aerial pole combos, then the opening, floorwork and the closing.

● From the top

Once you can memorise all the moves and timing, then dance it from the top to the end without stopping - even if you forget a move. It's like a jigsaw puzzle, putting together all the pieces.

● Hit record

Record yourself and notice parts where you show hesitation. Then repeat until you are happy with the results!

At the end of the day, it should look like you are dancing effortlessly, and when you are comfortable with your routine, that’s when you are most at ease to add your personal flair like facial expressions and personal styling; your very own showman and woman-ship.

I would also recommend freestyling to test your fluidity. Freestyling is ultimately letting yourself flow with the music without having to think and shows how comfortable and confident you truly are as a dancer.

We may never be completely satisfied (especially for all of us with perfectionist tendencies), but it is important to note that we should also look for progression over perfection. Ultimately, remember to have fun!
