KUALA LUMPUR − After ten years of contributing to the development of high-performance sports in the country, the National Sports Institute (NSI) is ready to move forward with the launch of the Integrated High Performance Recovery Centre.
The RM13.8 million world-class facility, which will be located at the NSI in Bukit Jalil, will be equipped with the latest rehabilitation amenities to provide athletes with sophisticated recovery techniques as well as optimise their performance and recovery process after training or tournaments.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu described the rehabilitation centre as a proud achievement for the country as well as a national benchmark in the field of sports science.
“It’s state-of-the-art and I find it to be of international standard. Surely, this is good news for athletes and members of the public. I am grateful that it has been completed. I hope it will be used properly.
“I have also asked the NSI to ensure the facilities are managed at the highest level for the long-term. It is the only one in Malaysia and surely this new facility is a proud achievement,” he told a media conference today after NSI’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
The rehabilitation centre is divided into two areas. The wet area comprises a 25-metre swimming pool, contrast bath pool and rehabilitation pool while the dry area provides a warm down space that has several equipment for the rehabilitation process.
The facility is meant to provide high-performance athletes, sports clubs and associations as well as the general public access to a wealth of systematic and scientific methods in the injury rehabilitation process.
Meanwhile, NSI chief executive officer Ahmad Faedzal Md Ramli said the facilities would also provide opportunities for sports and medical science researchers and practitioners to carry out high-impact studies in a bid to raise the performance level of national sports.
The NSI’s 10th anniversary celebrations, which was launched by Faedzal earlier today, showcased the latest initiatives by the NSI for the national sports ecosystem.
Also present were Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, Youth and Sports Ministry deputy secretary-general (Strategic) Ramona Mohd Razali, National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail as well as representatives from relevant governing bodies.
The NSI introduced initiatives to forge cooperation with various local public universities, private education centres and private companies; improve the sports Talent Identification and Development Programme (MyTID) and launch the NSI Performance Centre (PPSN 2.0).
In an effort to strengthen the NSI’s functions in the national sports arena, the agency also introduced subsidiaries specifically formed to generate income and business opportunities. – Bernama, November 25, 2021
