ISKANDAR PUTERI – The Johor government plans to announce a public holiday if the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) team lift the Malaysia Cup on November 30.
Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the proposed public holiday on December 1 would be to celebrate the success of the Southern Tigers in winning the trophy in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the country’s most prestigious football tournament.
“The Malaysia Cup is 100 years old and it is very historic and I believe we are all waiting for JDT to win this trophy,” he said when launching the Johor Special Housing Programme in Gerbang Nusajaya, earlier today.
Hasni hoped that JDT can field the best players in the final against Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, on Tuesday.
Defending champions JDT confirmed their slot to the final after recording a 4-1 aggregate victory over Terengganu FC (TFC) when they beat The Turtles 3-0 in the semi-finals second leg match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium here, last night.
KL City FC advanced to the final after beating Melaka United 5-3 on aggregate through penalty kicks after both teams were tied 1-1 at the end of extra time at the Hang Jebat Stadium.The first leg at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras had ended in a 1-1 draw. – Bernama, November 27, 2021
