KUALA LUMPUR − The annual general meeting (AGM) of the Selangor Athletics Association (POS) held on December 12 is not valid because it did not conform to the articles of the association, said Sports Commissioner (PJS) Ibrahim Mohd Yusof.
He said that after his office reviewed the report and documents related to the AGM, it was found that its organisation and the running of the meeting was in conflict or did not comply with the association’s constitution.
“As the AGM was not organised properly, the decisions made during the AGM are not applicable and cannot be validated,” he told Bernama.
At the AGM, Federal Territories athlete Norhayati Karim was elected president after her camp ousted Datuk S.M. Muthu from the post last October for alleged misappropriation of more than RM100,000 from the association’s fixed savings account.
Ibrahim said there were now two parties that claimed themselves as the legitimate committees but both did things that allegedly went against the association’s constitution.
“We will hold discussions with both camps (the other being Muthu’s) soon and recommend some measures to them so that this crisis can be resolved amicably,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the crisis that befell the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM), he said his office had no problems with the organisation of the AGM of the sepak takraw parent body this weekend.
He said the proposal to create a new entity should be given due consideration following the decision of the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation (Astaf) to no longer accept PSM as an affiliate after dropping the association last May.
“As Astaf does not want to accept PSM, we need a new entity to represent Malaysia at the international level. It should be noted that the decision of Astaf − whether to accept or not to accept PSM (as an affiliate) − is beyond our jurisdiction,” he said. – Bernama, February 9, 2022
