KUALA LUMPUR – Negeri Sembilan scored a goal in each half to edge Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC 2-0 and lift the Federal Territories Minister’s Cup at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium here tonight.
Negeri Sembilan opened accounts as early as in the 11th minute through Brazilian Matheus Alves Leandro before their other import, Frenchman Herold Goulon added the second in the 90th minute from the penalty spot.
Negeri Sembilan took home RM30,000 as champions while KL City received a contribution of RM1.5 million from the Federal Territories Ministry, Federal Territories Foundation and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
Also present to watch the game were Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who is also the KL City president, and Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad, who is also the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) president.
Earlier, fans of the City Boys joined the KL Legends in a procession around the stadium to celebrate their team’s 2021 Malaysia Cup victory.
KL City, who are coached by Bojan Hodak, emerged champions after defeating Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT FC) 2-0 in the final of the 100th anniversary of the Malaysia Cup competition last year.
Meanwhile, the X-Selangor veterans team scored a slim 1-0 win over hosts KL Legends in the Klang Valley Champions Trophy match this evening. – Bernama, February 18, 2022
