KUALA LUMPUR – Inter-media Bowling Championship 2022, organised by the National Press Club (NPC) and QI Group Malaysia, aims to promote positive camaraderie between journalists in the country.
Speaking at the press conference, NPC president Datuk Ahirudin Attan said as the Covid-19 pandemic has put a halt on activities lined up for the past two years, the bowling tournament serves as more than just a sporting event.
“With the tournament, it is also an opportunity for media practitioners nationwide to gather so we can promote the spirit of ethical journalism as we have been in hibernation for two years.
“We are glad to see the response from the sponsors for being with us on this journey who will also be supporting the NPC Media Night on May 20.
“Bowling is the first of many events that we will organise for our fellow media comrades,” said Ahirudin, commonly known among journalists as Datuk Rocky Bru.
Besides QI Group, other sponsors include 100 Plus, Nestlé (Milo), Swiss Garden Hotel, Breast Cancer Welfare Association, and Hexa Communications.
Ten teams will be participating in the bowling tournament that will be held on May 14 at Sunway Pyramid shopping centre, Petaling Jaya including Petra News, Media Prima’s TV3, Bernama, TwentyTwo13, New Straits Times Press, NPC, Sabah Journalists Association (SJA), Asia News, and Penang Press Club.
Meanwhile, eight other teams will be represented by the sponsors and a special invitation by Telum Media.
The top three teams will stand a chance to win cash prizes of RM1,200, RM800, and RM400, while the top two NPC teams will represent the club at media games against SJA in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
NPC is the oldest journalist club in the country – established in 1988 – with over 300 members.
Other than bowling tournaments, they also organise the National Press Club Awards that recognises and honours outstanding work within the media industry – mainstream and alternative. – The Vibes, May 11, 2022
