KUALA LUMPUR – Loyal Selangor FC fans have accepted the fact that the Shah Alam Stadium needs redevelopment in order to bring back its former glory.
Speaking to The Vibes, a member of the Selangor Soccer Fan Club (SSFC), Muhammad Hairy, said the fans are willing to accept the redevelopment of the facility if it is the only way to rejuvenate the Shah Alam Stadium.
Hairy said the Selangor FC management had a meeting with the top people of SSFC two weeks ago to explain the factors that would lead to the demolition of the current stadium infrastructure.
However, Hairy said the management assured that the new venue will still keep the original name of Shah Alam Stadium.
“They said the plan is to build a smaller stadium where the current one sits, decreasing the capacity from 80,000 to somewhere around 35,000 seats, and the new venue will only be a football stadium and not a multi-purpose sports complex like the current stadium.
“They also said that it would be more cost-effective to rebuild a smaller stadium than carry out the repair works needed to fix the facility,” he added.
However, he said fans would prefer to see the stadium brought back to its former glory.
“Although they (stadium management) have not come to a final decision yet, we hope they can find a way to keep the current stadium and revive it.
“As loyal fans, we have so many bittersweet memories there,” he added.
In terms of “home ground”, the team is currently playing at the Petaling Jaya City Council stadium after the Malaysian Football League (MFL) deemed the Shah Alam Stadium unsafe to host matches.
Previously, The Vibes visited the stadium and found it to be in a state of despair.
Kami Prihatin Selangor chairman Datuk Ahmad Mua’adzam Shah Ya’akop said the state government should be blamed for the current condition of the Shah Alam Stadium. – The Vibes, July 14, 2022
