PUTRAJAYA – The Youth and Sports Ministry is committed to producing more football talents among youths through Malaysia Little League in collaboration with the Education Ministry.
The tournament, launched today, is an initiative by the government to cultivate interest and activate grassroots development towards creating a sporting society and making Malaysia a sporting nation.
“All in all, the initiative will function as a talent pool for the best players for the national football team, Harimau Malaya.
“We will be choosing the eight best teams based on the ranking from the District School Sports Council (MSSD) Football Tournament where the champions of each level will continue the challenge to the national level,” said Education Minister Datuk Radzi Jidin.
He was met after officiating the Malaysia Little League 2022 with Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu at Taman Pancarona Mini Stadium today.
Radzi added that the league is part of the Education Ministry’s many components under the 1Student, 1Sport policy implemented under the Malaysian Education Development Plan (2013-2025), a programme to produce students to be physically and mentally active.
With such an approach, they wish to provide more opportunities for the youths to explore their talents on a national level.
The league will be conducted in a structured manner covering the district, state, and national levels.
A total of 2,940 teams are expected to join the league through the B-16 (men and women) and B-12 (men) categories.
The league is scheduled to start at the district level in August and is expected to end at the national level in November. – The Vibes, July 19, 2022
