KUALA LUMPUR – The next phase of the F:30 roadmap will see higher targets set for Malaysian football in Asia, said Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin.
Launched in 2018, the 12-year F:30 phase one roadmap comes to an end later this year.
“The past four years we focused on three main aspects – governance, development, and competition.
“Even though we could not achieve 100% of all that we set out to do due to the pandemic, Malaysian football has improved in the four years,” he said at a press conference after the 58th FAM Congress today.
With the plan for the next four years expected to be unveiled early next year, Hamidin said the first step will be to focus on the youth squads.
“We want our team to be at a certain level and prove to be a reckoning force in Asia. Maybe in future competitions, our target will be not just to qualify but make it into the round of 16.”
Moving into the next phase, Hamidin said there are various elements that will need to be strengthened in the coming years.
“Our target for the second phase is Asia, and our improvements so far will contribute to setting a new benchmark for Malaysian football.”
He also hopes that everyone involved in the F:30 roadmap will show the same enthusiasm that was present during F:30’s first launch in 2018.
The first phase (2019-2022) of the roadmap focused on building a solid foundation of governance, competitions, and human capital development as well as infrastructure.
The second phase (2023-2026) focuses on accomplishments within Asia, and the final phase (2027-2030) aims to produce a national team of world-class level.
It was launched in 2018 alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Asian Football Confederation president Shaikh Ebrahim Al Khalifa. – The Vibes, August 6, 2022
