KUALA LUMPUR – The Asean Football Federation (AFF) welcomed the return to a full home and away format after changing the format for the previous editions due to the pandemic.
Entering its 14th edition, the tournament will see teams play two matches at home and away in the group stage.
10 qualified teams will compete for the most coveted prize in Asean football, with the draw dividing them into two groups of five.
The top two sides of each group will advance to the knockout stages consisting of two-legged semi-finals and final.
The nine nations in the draw comprise Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Brunei and Timor-Leste will compete for the tenth spot during the qualification round playoff matches.
AFF president Khiev Sameth said the announcement marks a significant step forward in the preparations for the upcoming tournament.
“We believe the fans and national teams share our excitement and the draw will kickstart the build-up to the region’s biggest football showpiece taking place at the end of the year,” he said in a statement.
The official draw for the AFF tournament will be held in Bangkok, Thailand next Tuesday at 3pm, Malaysian time. – The Vibes, August 10, 2022.
