KUALA LUMPUR – Federal Territories (FT) Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said he would only accept the appointment for a post in Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC after making a background check with the relevant agencies to ensure that KL City FC is free of any issues.

His name was announced as The City Boys’ patron and club president by Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) president Khalid Abdul Samad yesterday.

Khalid, an opposition lawmaker and former FT minister, said Shahidan’s appointment would be a testament to creating unity through football.

While thanking KLFA for the announcement, Shahidan said he really needs to make a background check first before he can accept the appointment.

“This is to ensure that KL City FC is free of any issues, and that the performance of the football club remains at the best level,” he said in a statement today.

Shahidan is currently the president of Malaysia Swimming and Malaysia Athletics Federation. – Bernama, August 24, 2022
