KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian rally racing legend Karamjit Singh is set to make a comeback to the international stage this weekend as he will be participating in the 2022 Lake Toba Rally in Indonesia.

The 2022 Lake Toba Rally is also the second round of the Indonesian Rally Championship as well as the fourth round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) Asia Cup 2022.

The race will take place at one of Indonesia’s famous tourist attraction locations, namely Aek Nauli Parapat in North Sumatra from September 23 to September 25.

In a statement, the organisers said that a total of 62 participants have registered for the Lake Toba Rally as it has exceeded the initial target of 60 participants.

“The inclusion of Karamjit in this race has attracted rally fans in Indonesia and many are looking forward to this weekend to witness the 2002 World Rally Championships production category champion in action,” the statement said.

Karamjit and his co-driver Jagdev Singh will drive the Proton Gen2 2.0L Turbo 4WD, which helped him win the Malaysian National Rally Championship 2022 in Pahang two months ago.

However, Karamjit is not the only driver with a Proton in Indonesia as woman driver Qanita Syahshiyah, along with her co-driver Julian Puspa Andari, from Eurostar Racing Team will start the rally with the Proton Saga.

At the same time, other drivers racing in the Lake Toba Rally include local racers such as Sean Galael who drives the Citroen C3 R5 of the Jagonya Ayam team, Rifat Sungkar with the MPV Mitsubishi Xpander AP4 of the Xpander Rally Team and Ryan Nirwan who drives the Toyota GR Yaris AP4 of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Indonesia team.

The 2022 Lake Toba Rally will feature 12 special stages on the gravel surface, taking place in the PT Toba Pulp Lestari Industrial Plantation Forest area in the Aek Nauli sector.

Meanwhile, organising committee head Elwin Siregar said The Lake Toba Rally APRC 2022 is open to the public. There are several places that are quite interesting as spectator points. Spectators can watch this race directly without any fee collection any watch it safely. – Agencies, September 20, 2022
