After poor performance streak, Zii Jia says he’s bounced back

KUALA LUMPUR – Despite missing out on clinching his fourth World Tour title at the Super 750 Denmark Open final last night, national men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia believes that he has bounced back from a poor performance the past couple of months.

This comes after the 24-year-old lost to China’s Shi Yuqi in the final match at Jyske Bank Arena yesterday with 21-18, 16-21, 21-12 on the scoreboard.

The last time Malaysia landed the title was in 2012 by Datuk Lee Chong Wei.

Zii Jia said he has rediscovered his game style after experiencing a downward performance at the Tokyo World Championships and the Japan Open.

Speaking after the match, he said, “This is a good start for me again after the previous two tournaments.

“I have a few more tournaments coming up. I just need to focus on those and hopefully maintain my performance.

“I was quite tired…not to say that Yu Qi was not, but I think he has more experience in handling the game better than I do.”

The world number three will be competing at the Super 750 French Open on October 25-30 and the Super 300 Hylo Open next month.

Also competing in the French Open is Liew Daren, who is also Zii Jia’s assistant coach, as well as men’s doubles world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, women’s doubles team Pearl Tan-M. Thinaah, and mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai. – The Vibes, October 24, 2022
