KUALA NERUS – Terengganu FC (TFC) coach Nafuzi Zain does not want to make a hasty decision regarding the contract extension offer he received to remain as head coach of TFC next season.

Instead, Nafuzi, who hails from Kelantan, said that he will hold discussions with the management of Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd first before deciding whether he wants to continue guiding the Turtles or move on to new pastures.

Nafuzi said basically he was very grateful to the board of directors of Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd for the offer but needed some time to make a decision that would determine his future direction in the national football scene.

“Right now, I don’t know anything because the top management just finished meeting this afternoon (yesterday). Have to wait to see what the offer will be. I will be careful and discuss with the management before making a decision.

“Furthermore, I have to focus on the two matches with Sri Pahang for the Malaysia Cup campaign tomorrow night (today) and on November 1,” he said when met during a team training session at the Gong Badak Sports Complex here, yesterday evening..

Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd’s board of directors yesterday announced the offer of a contract extension (as head coach of the Turtles) to Nafuzi for a one-year period next season.

Nafuzi, who has guided the team for four seasons, has been given two weeks to give an answer on whether he wants to accept that responsibility or otherwise.

In the meantime, Nafuzi, who is also a former Terengganu striker, also expressed his deepest appreciation to the Terengganu football players and fans who have always given solid support to the extent he was able to achieve the key performance indicators set by the management.

He said the task was not easy, but the players’ hard work and strong support enabled TFC to win the Super League runner-up title and qualify for the Asian Confederation Cup next season.

“The support of the people of Terengganu was also what allowed me to remain as the head coach of TFC this season. Thus, I set aside all personal matters and put the interests of the team and the hopes of the supporters first,” he said. – Bernama, October 26, 2022
