JAKARTA – Persis Solo, an Indonesian football club based in Surakarta city in Central Jawa, has received an invitation to a training camp with Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

A total of 26 players will be brought to the training camp and will play two friendlies with the nine-time Super League champions from tomorrow to November 18, the club said in a statement recently.

Persis Solo will also undertake comparative studies and research about JDT’s club governance, support infrastructure, academy systems, and management.

“We believe that professional club management in the modern football industry can be learnt from JDT, who have won several national championships and created successes in Asia within a decade,” the statement said.

Persis Solo’s management is headed by Kaesang Pangarep, President Joko Widodo’s youngest son as chief executive officer. Billionaire State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir also owns shares of the club.

Former JDT assistant coach Leonardo Medina was appointed as the club’s new coach on Sunday and is now working to ensure the players are in top physical shape.

The Indonesian league is still suspended by the government following the tragedy at Kanjuruhan Stadium on October 1, which left 135 people dead.

Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd after the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya, causing a crush among panicked spectators at the stadium’s exit. – Bernama, November 8, 2022
