KUALA LUMPUR – The 14th edition of the Sepang 1,000km (S1K) race, to be held on November 17, 18 and 20 at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), has received participation for the maximum grid slots of 77 cars.
SIC in a statement said this edition of the national endurance race, being the finale for its 2022 race calendar saw the highest entry since 2019, with racers from neighbouring countries – Singapore and Indonesia – after Covid-19 pandemic travel restrictions were eased.
The racers will be competing in two different classes, namely M Production Class and S Production Class for production cars below 1600cc.
“For this year, the free practice will be on Thursday and qualifying sessions will be on Saturday. The race will be flagged off on Sunday from about 9.30am and ends at around 6.30pm with a total of 181 laps,” SIC said.
In 2021, the Privateer team comprising Leona Chin and her partners Mohd Nasri Md Said, Tham Yik Choon and Akina Teo claimed the M Production class title, while the S Production category winners were Lai Wee Sing and Calvin Damian Wong of R Engineering.
SIC said entry to the main grandstand is free, while paddock entry tickets are priced at RM106 to get up close and personal with the competitors. – Bernama, November 15, 2022
