KUALA TERENGGANU – Asia’s best cycling team, the Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team (TSG), is betting on its six riders in the five-day Tour of Sharjah, which starts this Friday in the United Arab Emirates.

TSG chief operating officer Nasiruddin Wan Idrus said the riders selected to take on the challenge include three imports, Metkel Ayob, Anatolii Budiak, and Indonesian Aiman Cahyadi.

The local riders are Wan Abdul Rahman Hamdan, Mohd Shahrul Mat Amin, and Irwandie Lakasek, who have been with the elite squad for several seasons.

The team aim to win two podiums and defend the title of the overall champion at the Tour of Sharjah, he said when contacted today.

According to Nasiruddin, TSG needs to score as many points as possible from the first race on so they can become the world’s best continental team in 2023.

“In 2022, we managed to win the overall championship and win a podium through Anatolii Budiak at the Tour of Sharjah. This year we hope to achieve better results,” he added.

For the 2023 season, the TSG line-up involves 16 riders, comprising seven imports and nine locals under Canadian coach Jeremy Hunt. – AFP, January 23, 2023
