KUALA LUMPUR – Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin paid a courtesy call on Jordan Football Association (JFA) president Prince Ali Al-Hussein to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation in Amman, yesterday.
At the meeting, Hamidin said Prince Ali, who is also the president of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF), was updated about development in Malaysia, especially on women’s and grassroots football that need to be given more emphasis with several strategic approaches.
He said the two sides also shared views and the potential of bilateral cooperation in football not only with Jordan but also with West Asian countries under the WAFF.
“Thanks to Prince Ali for taking his time to discuss the possibility of bilateral football cooperation between Malaysia and Jordan.
“We are also planning to hold national team friendly matches with Jordan covering all age groups, including the women's national squad, futsal and beach soccer under the FIFA calendar later,” Hamidin said in a FAM statement today.
Hamidin is also optimistic that the discussion will benefit both countries in the long term.
Also present at the meeting were FAM secretary-general Noor Azman Haji Rahman, JFA secretary-general Samar Nassar and WAFF secretary-general Khalil Al-Salem.
According to the statement, the two leaders of the parent bodies welcomed the proposal on Malaysia-Jordan relations and also West Asia being upgraded to a more comprehensive level.
“The head coach of the Malayan Tigress squad, Soleen Al-Zou’bi, who is from Jordan, is also seen as being able to further strengthen this bilateral relationship,” said the statement.
Soleen was previously Head of Women’s Football Unit and Assistant Technical Director at JFA and reported to Wisma FAM on December 1 last year. – Bernama, January 26, 2023
