KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Kangsar BRM FC will need to change into another jersey if they still wish to participate in the FA Cup, said Malaysian Football League chief executive officer Stuart Ramalingam.
This came after the club, which will make its second appearance in the M3 League, recently launched its jersey which displayed an electronic cigarette company logo as the main sponsor.
“The rules state that no advertising of gambling, cigarettes including electronic cigarettes, or alcohol are allowed in the Malaysian League. The restriction has been in the system for a long time,” Stuart told the media after joining Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh on her official visit to the Paralympic Games Centre of Excellence in Kg Pandan, here today.
“This applies to the team’s participation in the FA Cup only. However, I cannot speak for their participation in the Amateur Football League as it falls under a different jurisdiction.
“We will not stop the team from participating if they could change into another jersey.
“We hope BRM can still play in the FA Cup, but that is up to them because the impact is more on their participation in the AFL.”
Meanwhile, Stuart assured that BRM’s spot in the FA Cup will not be given to another team but if they decided to withdraw, but the team that plays against BRM will be given a bye to the next stage.
Following the launch of the controversial jersey, BRM has since issued an apology and hinted at withdrawing from the 2023 M3 League. – The Vibes, February 18, 2023
