KUANTAN – A good performance by the defence enabled Sri Pahang FC to check Sabah FC’s progress with a 1-1 draw in their Super League match at the Darul Makmur Stadium last night.
Sri Pahang FC head coach Fandi Ahmad, however, admitted that there are still weaknesses that need to be rectified by The Elephants in that section which could lead to defeats if they continue to repeat the same mistakes in the upcoming matches.
“The defence has been able to perform well so far, regardless of the formation used, but there were times when they were careless.
“They should have been smarter in guarding the area and keeping the eye on the ball, because there were dangerous attempts by the opponents,” he said.
Sri Pahang FC’s goal was scored by import striker Kpah Sean Sherman in the 25th minute, when the team rose up to improve the pace of the match after being stunned by the Rhinos’ goal in the 14th minute through Daniel Sang Ting’s header.
Fandi said that overall, he was satisfied with his men’s style of play, because they managed to regain their rhythm to compete against the visitors after playing a bit slowly at the beginning of the match.
“Both teams had good chances, but I was a bit upset because Sri Pahang failed to take advantage of golden opportunities to score more goals in the final minutes of the match,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sabah FC head coach, Datuk Ong Kim Swee said his team played well despite facing a difficult away environment.
“One goal was conceded because of our mistake, plus the pitch here is quite soft...but it can happen to anyone, so we have to be ready for any difficulty,” he said.
However, he declined to comment on the incident where he was shown the red card by the referee in the 67th minute of the match. – Bernama, March 13, 2023
